OE Tire or NOT? The $3 Million Question.

OE Tire or NOT? The $3 Million Question.

Have you ever wondered if there is any significant difference between an OE (Original Equipment) tire and a NOT (Not Original Equipment Tire)? The OE tire is a particular tire the auto manufacturer chose to use when your vehicle was new from the factory. Oftentimes, the automaker will collaborate with the tire manufacturer to create specific tires, with customized features and characteristics tailored to your Mercedes-Benz for optimal safety and performance. On average, a tire company spends $3 million to develop and test these tires for a certain make and model.

When it comes time to replace your tires, you may be tempted to turn to a Not OE Tire in order to save some money. While many NOT’s are developed by reputable tire brands, they still may not be the best choice for your Mercedes-Benz. It may fit the rim and seem perfectly fine visually, but bottom line, it’s not the Original Equipment tire developed and tested specifically for your vehicle.

Much like aftermarket parts, NOT’s may accomplish a basic fit, but being off even a miniscule amount on just one measurement can make a significant impact on safety and performance. Take a chance with a Non OE Tire or go with the tire specifically tailored to your vehicle backed with $3 million worth of research and development? I know what I would choose for myself and my family.  Questions or concerns about your tires? Visit our state-of-the-art tire and service center, or contact us at Keenan Motors in Doylestown, PA.
